Coach Devon Buchanan, M.Ed
As a teen, Devon, better known as “Coach”, struggled with his self-esteem. Suffering from years of bullying and insecurity, Devon turned what he once struggled with into his greatest strength, speaking life into our next generation. Devon, fondly earned the name “Coach” as an early educator in Newark, NJ as he not only had a passion for teaching kids Health and Fitness, he always believed his most important responsibility to the next generation is to coach them through life, helping them identify their own gifts, and purpose.
Whether Coach is teaching a classroom of 25 or speaking to a room of 2500, he shares the powerful experiences, people, and values that changed his life forever, pushing him to pursue his gifts and achieve things he never dreamed of; from singing “God Bless America” in front of 45,000 people, to being featured in the news for his work in the community. To date, in addition to earning his Master’s in Multicultural Education, Devon has positively affected the lives of thousands of young people through 13 years of formal classroom instruction at top schools in the country, 10 years of competitive baseball coaching, and his non-profit, The FOCUS Youth Network, which provides innovative educational and recreational activities for youth and their families.
Today, Devon focuses his energy on helping youth to do what he calls, “Living a Lifetime of Wellness”, taking care of yourself physically, mentally, socially, and emotionally. As an author of two books and an online life-skills based curriculum called FOCUS Futures Academy, Devon is well equipped to massively support young people in their personal growth and development. Devon’s passion and life's work is to help young people become the best version of themselves.
